CHARGE:
The Environmental Committee is a standing committee of the Board of
Director of the Cypress Landing Homeowners Association. The
committee is responsible for responding to environmental inquiries,
providing information through written and oral presentations, assisting
in data collection for water quality in Chocowinity Bay, organizing
highway litter cleanups, and assists the Cypress Landing homeowners to
be mindful of, and friendly to, our environment.
STRUCTURE:
The Board of Directors appoints the members of the Committee for
two-year terms upon the recommendation of the Committee.
The Committee elects the Chair of the Committee and other officers.
Appropriate sub-committees are made up of members of the Committee.
The Committee will meet monthly and in special session as needed.
FUNCTION:
The sub-committees currently focus on the following activities:
· Water testing –
Biweekly data gathered and reported to Citizens Water Quality Monitoring
Program c/o ECU’s Institute for Coastal and Marine Resources.
· Recycling – provide
for the recycle of aluminum cans from the Marina and Golf Club to the
Blind Center in Washington. Promote “recycling” throughout the CL
Community.
· Highway
Cleanup-Quarterly Highway cleanup of Olds Blounts Creek Road adjacent to
Cypress Landing property, and other local highways when enough
volunteers are present.
· Tree Planting –
provide homeowners with the opportunity to purchase appropriate trees at
a reduced cost from a local source. Study ways to enhance the
flora environment of CL properties through various planting strategies
and present suggestions to CL Board for consideration.
· Nature Trails –
Monitor the two nature trails in the community and provide
recommendations towards better utilization of these trails. Investigate
and make recommendations for improvements (i.e. marking the trails
appropriately, clearer identification of beginning and end of trails,
and improving overall conditions of the trails.) The committee will
submit their findings and recommendations to the CL Board.
· Education – Identify
and inform CL residents of local environmental education programs and
activities. Provide useful maintenance and care information on
chemicals and assist in the gathering of lists of chemicals being used
in Cypress Landing.
· Pamlico/Tar River
Foundation Liaison – Maintain an informational relationship with the
Pamlico/Tar River Foundation.
