APRIL 24, 2008
Attendees: Chair Holly Cook, Sharon Bachman, Pat Carlson, Bev
Lasher, Mary Elaine Kavanah, Mary Knobelspiesse
OLD BUSINESS
TREASURY: The committee has a budget of $500.
ARTSPACE, Raleigh, April 22 - No one showed up for the carpool trip.
SCULPTURE: The Whiting Toler sculpture prototype was viewed and
critiqued. The sculpture made of wood-resin, depicts figures of
the American Indians offering fish to the white Settlers. The
artist’s portrayal is of the early history of Chocowinity.
Although the committee admired the artist’s work, it is not what the
committee envisioned nor requested, and its intended size and detailed
theme would far exceed our stated budget, and it was turned down.
A discussion ensued about purchasing another piece of sculpture, but it
was decided to table the subject because of the difficulty in selecting
one piece that everyone will agree on and help fund.
NEW BUSINESS
LABELS for the Art at the Bay Club: Bev Lasher received approval
from the HOA House Committee to place laser-engraved, brass labels on
the artwork purchased by the committee. Each label will state the
name of the picture/work and the artist’s name. Bev has ordered
them from the Just Right Engravers, Farmville, NC.
ARTIST-OF-THE MONTH – April: Phil Brouillet’s oil painting is
currently being exhibited at the Bay Club.
WATER COLOR SOCIETY – Holly will inquire into having someone from the
society critique the artwork created by committee members.
ARTISANS’SHOWCASE – Various thoughts were discussed as to how to present
this show. The show will remain in November in the same format.
DISCUSSION: Interest was expressed in combining with the Cultural
& Education Committee. Bev Lasher will inquire about this with the
Culture and Education Committee.
Respectfully submitted, Mary Elaine Kavanah, Sec.
