2/28/08 Attendees: Bill Lord, Ed Smith, Dick Lasher,
Mara Graves, Mary Thomson, Judy
Keohane
Bill Lord reviewed the updated Charter and proposed two changes.
The shell document prepared by Wally Stein was received by all for
review. All agreed it was very comprehensive. Wally will edit this.
Suggestions; a philosophy/vision
statement is needed
Needs to be a smaller(perhaps pamphlet size) form
The application for tree removal should remain as a separate form
The Riparian Buffer Compliance document prepared by Dick Lasher was
reviewed. Further discussion of the elements will be discussed within
this committee.
ACC document discussed. The challenge will be to change the current
culture and provide options to homeowners. Currently people view the
process as punitive, and compliance is inconsistent once the home is
occupied.
Construction
Need to expand the concept of tree
protection prior to and during construction.
Common areas
Need to create a document/policies
that apply to the community as a whole (lots, homesites, common areas,
and golf course
Golf course
Ed will summarize details and
include Riparian Buffer issues for the golf course
Creative replacement and management of trees
Need to articulate the benefits
of trees to entire community
Need a marketing
statement that includes the maintenance of a “healthy” treed
environment.
Ed will work on the communication aspect from the golf course to the
community as a whole so that all residents are aware and familiar with
the tree management plans as they relate to a “healthy” golf course.
Dick will condense and summarize the Riparian buffer requirements.
Mara will outline a long range plan from the B&G committee
regarding the common areas.
Mary and Judy will come up with a “catchy” phrase or worded statement
that defines “parklike” in an attempt to have the community embrace the
need for tree management.
Bill will invite a N.C. Forestry rep to the March meeting.
Next meeting: Thursday, March 16, 2008
April meeting scheduled for April 10,2008
Washington room at 3 PM
NOTE: All interested members will meet at 1:30 PM prior to the meeting
to tour CL with the
Forestry rep.
